Broadband Internet Technologies deployed by BSNL: ADSL / VDSL / FTTH / WiMax / EVDO / 3G / WiFi

State run PSU, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is the largest provider of fixed telephony and Broadband Service provider in India. BSNL is India's oldest and largest communication service provider having footprints throughout India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Broadband Internet Technologies deployed by BSNL: ADSL / VDSL / FTTH / WiMax / EVDO / 3G / WiFi

BSNL provides various technologies to access high speed Broadband Internet Services for it's customers. It includes - ADSL / VDSL / FTTH / WiMax / EVDO / 3G / WiFi etc. No other operator in India is offering such different varieties of products / services for it's customers.

Now let us see in detail the different broadband internet access technologies deployed by BSNL.

1. ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) || Wired Broadband Services

BSNL provides Wired Broadband Services on the same copper cable that is used for connecting telephone. DSL technology enables high-speed data communications over copper lines by making use of frequencies which are not utilized for voice communications. ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line service and it is called asymmetric because the download and upload speeds are not symmetrical (download is faster than upload).

ADSL2 and  ADSL2+ are the latest versions of ADSL Broadband access technologies. These improved versions adds new features like dynamic data rate adaptation, better resistance to noise, stand-by mode to save power etc. for improving the performance.

Customers may access ADSL Broadband internet services upto 5 kilometers from their local telephone exchange.

2. VDSL (Very high bit rate Digital Subscriber Line) || Wired Broadband Services

VDSL is a digital subscriber line (DSL) technology providing data transmission faster than ADSL over a twisted pair of copper wires. BSNL offers VDSL plans having download speed up to 24 Mbps. VDSL is capable of supporting applications such as high-definition television, as well as telephone services (voice over IP) and general Internet access, over a single connection.

VDSL connections are more preferred for applications which require higher upload speeds. Customers may access VDSL Broadband internet services within 1 kilometer from their local telephone exchange.

3. FTTH (Fiber to the Home) || Wired Broadband Services

Fiber to the home (FTTH) is the delivery of a communications signal over optical fiber having unlimited bandwidth from the operator's switching equipment all the way to a home or business, thereby replacing existing copper infrastructure such as telephone wires and coaxial cable. BSNL offers high download speed up to 100 Mbps through FTTH services.

It provides a comprehensive solution for the IP leased line, internet, Closed User Group (CUG), MPLS-VPN, VoIP, video conferencing, video calls etc whatever the services available on the internet platform.

4. WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) || Wireless Broadband Services

WiMAX is a wireless communications standard designed to provide 30 to 40 megabit-per-second data rates, with the 2011 update providing up to 1 Gbit/s for fixed stations. BSNL offers WiMax plans having high download speed of up to 2 Mbps. WiMax is an access technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.

WiMax connections are preferred in areas where wired line connections are not available or not feasible. Customers may access WiMax Broadband internet services depending on the coverage.

5. EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimized) || Wireless Broadband Services

EVDO is a telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals, typically for broadband Internet access. EVDO is an evolution of the CDMA2000 (IS-2000) standard that supports high data rates and can be deployed alongside a wireless carrier's voice services. BSNL EVDO offers high download speed of up to 3.1 Mbps.

EVDO connections are also used in those areas where wired line connections are not available or not feasible. Customers may access WiMax Broadband internet services depending on the coverage.

6. 3G (Third Generation Network) || Wireless Broadband Services

3G telecommunication networks support services that provide an information transfer rate of at least 200 kbps. Later 3G releases, often denoted 3.5G and 3.75G, also provide mobile broadband access of several Mbps to smartphones and mobile modems in laptop computers. BSNL 3G offers download speed up to 14.4 Mbps.

BSNL 3G allows simultaneous use of speech and advanced high speed data services. BSNL also offers all India Free data roaming for it's customers.
