Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has published latest telecom subscription data for the moth of September 2016. As per the latest report, state run telecom major - BSNL activated more than 14 lakh new mobile connections and achieved the highest monthly growth rate of 1.52%.

Reliance Jio has also started their commercial operations in September 2016. 4G operator Jio's total subscriber base reached 1.6 crore with 1.52% market share. BSNL - the fourth largest mobile operator in the country, holds a market share of 8.93% in September 2016.
The performance of BSNL in wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth rate is continuously increasing from July 2015 on wards - after the launch of FREE All India Roaming Scheme.
The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1053.40 million at the end of August 2016 to 1074.24 million at the end of September 2016, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 1.98%.
BSNL holds the No.1 position in Landline segment with 56.72% market share. Airtel holds the No.1 position in Broadband segment (Wired + Wireless) position with 24.02% market share and Vodafone at second position with 18.69% market share as on 30th September 2016.
The total number of broadband subscribers in India, increased from 171.71 million at the end of August 2016 to 192.30 million at the end of September 2016 with monthly growth rate of 11.99%. Top Five service providers constituted 78.62% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of September 2016. These service providers were Bharti Airtel (46.19 million), Vodafone (35.94 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (30.72 million), BSNL (21.60 million) and Reliance Communications Group (16.74 million).
In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.88 million customers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 1.94 million customers.

In the month of September 2016, a total of 5.00 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 234.47 million at the end of August 2016 to 239.46 million at the end of September 2016.

As on 30th September 2016, the private access service providers held 90.72% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 9.28% market share.


Total wireless subscriber base declined from 1028.88 million at the end of August 2016 to 1049.74 million at the end of September 2016, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 2.03%.


In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.88 million customers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 1.94 million customers.
