BSNL surrendered BWA spectrum in six telecom circles (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kolkata) and currently the PSU holds 20 MHz BWA spectrum in 2,500 MHz band for rolling out 4G services in 14 telecom circles.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said – “BSNL management committee has approved rollout of 4G services. We are in process of issuing expression of interest for rolling out 4G services on revenue sharing basis. It should be issued around mid of this month. We will provide only bandwidth to technology service provider who will manage and operate 4G services.”
BSNL will be launching Ultra Fast 4G Services in the
following telecom circles:- Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab,
Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, UP (E), UP (W), Bihar, Orissa, Madhya
Pradesh, Assam, North East and Orissa.
BSNL managed to achieve net positive in Mobile Number Portability in 2015-16. The company registered the highest growth rate in providing new mobile connections in February 2016, beating all private operators.
“The 4G services will further add to our subscriber growth. We are known for providing affordable service rates and we will always strive for meeting this expectation of people. We are also working to roll out 40,000 WiFi Hotspots across the country in two-three years which will compliment its 4G services,” Shrivastava added.

Reliance Jio who are planning to launch 4G services very soon. BSNL also has the second largest mobile towers in the country hence we may expect wider coverage than other private operators.
