Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the latest telecom subscription data as on 31st October 2015. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added more than 7.27 lakhs new mobile customers in the month of October 2015.
BSNL registered a monthly growth rate of 0.91% during October 2015 and positioned itself in the Top Five position, beating Aircel, Vodafone and Idea. In addition, the PSU also managed to get in to the Top Five position in net addition of wireless subscribers in the month of October 2015. The market share of BSNL in wireless segment is slightly increased to 8.01% in October 2015.
BSNL added around 4.8 lakhs of new wireless subscribers in July 2015, 8.1 lakhs in August 2015, 10.48 lakhs in September 2015 and and 7.27 lakhs in October 2015. These figures clearly shows a positive sign of revival and more and more new customers are being added into BSNL Family through MNP as a result of customer friendly initiatives like FREE All India Roaming and Lowest 3G Data Offers.
Among BSNL units, all telecom circles achieved positive growth in wireless subscriber addition except Andhra Pradesh (-4357) & Mharashtra (-5956) during the month of October 2015. The best performers are UP East (+1,31,408), Madhya Pradesh (+1,00,743), Kerala (+80,626), UP West (+79,952) and Orissa (+61,001).
As per this report, the total number of broadband subscribers increased from 120.88 million at the end of September 2015 to 125.22 million at the end of October 2015 with monthly growth rate of 3.59%.
BSNL holds the No.1 position in Landline segment with 60.05% market share. Airtel holds the No.1 position in Broadband segment (Wired + Wireless) position with 23.19% market share and Vodafone at second position with 19.55% market share as on 31st October 2015.
Top Five service providers constituted 83.61% market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of October 2015. These service providers were Bharti Airtel (29.03 million), Vodafone (24.48 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (20.28 million), BSNL (19.43 million) and Reliance Communications Group (11.47 million).
The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1022.61 million at the end of September 2015 to 1029.34 million at the end of October 2015, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.66%.
Total wireless subscriber base increased from 996.66 million at the end of September 2015 to 1003.49 million at the end of October 2015, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.69%.
As on 31st October, 2015, the private access service providers held 91.63% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 8.37% market share.
In Wired Broadband segment, BSNL holds the No.1 position with 9.94 million customers, followed by Bharati Airtel with 1.61 million customers.

Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
In the month of October 2015, a total of 5.11 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 176.39 million at the end of September 2015 to 181.50 million at the end of October 2015.
