
An official statement from BSNL regarding the recovery of market price for damaged / non returned modem, said -
At the time of surrender of service, in case of non-return/damage of ONT (supplied to customer on rental basis), the prevailing sale price of ONT may be recovered from the customer.
At the time of surrender of service, in case of non-return/damaged return of any ADSL/VDSL modems (supplied to customer on rental basis), the prevailing sale price of that ADSL/VDSL modem may be recovered from the customer.
The above instructions shall be applicable with immediate effect in all the Circles.

In case of any technical fault in the Fiber Modem (ONT) or ADSL/VDSL Broadband Modem during active subscription, BSNL repairs the equipment free of cost since it is still owned by BSNL and only rented to the subscriber.
